Giant (Sequence 0)

God's Step

The Giant is the summit of the path and its name. At this step, the bearer wields the authority of Twilight, gathered from the symbols of Light, Space-Time, and Decay, and it acts not as a technique but as a state of the world around him.

His very presence warps matter and the void: everything nearby begins to decay irresistibly, the air fills with the sensation of approaching twilight and the dissolution of all things. The Giant is capable of:

turning matter, will, and even the void into decay, causing them to crumble and vanish;

thickening the twilight and slowing the passage of time, creating a twilight domain around himself;

rapidly aging and decomposing a target, severing for mortals any means of resurrection;

instilling instability in a target and pushing it toward loss of control, the symptoms only growing stronger;

slowing the formation and opening of Doors;

gradually weakening an opponent.

The Giant's Twilight is kin to the Decay of the Second Law: both forces are bound to time and manifest alike — but, unlike Decay, Twilight does not affect the state of organizations. Together with the sunset, the Giant also owns the Dawn: endings are bound inseparably to beginnings, and so the summit of the path possesses both.

A share of Holiness also belongs to him. Death is one of the most solemn events of life and of the world, and therefore deeply sacred; hence the Giant's power in purification and in discerning evil and corruption.

Finally, the authority of Battle falls to him in its entirety: the most dreadful might, the most enormous form, the most crushing destruction, and the most unyielding defense together with skill and experience — from these is battle as such composed. Destruction is regarded here as a subordinate authority, because it is born of the action of battle and is inseparable from it.
