Soul Assurer — a step of comfort, and on the Path of Darkness this is not softness but a tool. Spirituality grows a little, yet henceforth the bearer sees spiritual beings directly, without activating Spiritual Vision.

The main ability is Requiem. The Assurer puts the target's spiritual body to sleep, suppressing and calming its desires, moods, and thoughts: the person slows down or freezes in place. The same technique extinguishes spiritual abilities — for example, someone else's spiritual intuition — while ghosts, souls, and the undead simply fall silent.

Requiem also has a peaceful use, which the canon states outright: the Soul Assurer sets the companions' mental state in order, working, in effect, as the squad's psychiatrist. For an organization where people meet the otherworldly every night and gradually lose their minds, this is not a luxury but a condition of survival — not for nothing does the step stand on the Path of the Church of the Eternal Night.

One should also understand the limits of this skill. Requiem deals no damage and destroys nothing: it lulls, slows, extinguishes. Against one who has already lost control, it is a way to buy time and hold them back from the slaughter, but not a way to defeat them.

The earlier abilities also grow: intrusion into sleep now works within a hundred and fifty meters, the Midnight Poem can be sung rather than read — the effect is no weaker for it — and the bearer's nocturnal nature needs only two hours of rest a day.

The potion's composition speaks of the step no less than the descriptions: a spiritual crystal of a rotten pastor, the skull of a foreign deep-sleeper, sanctified water, and the powder of the deep-sleep flower. Half the formula is about sleep, half is about resting in peace — and that is exactly what the Assurer does.
