An Otherworldly must behave as prescribed by their stage until the power becomes a part of them. Until the potion is digested, the bearer is vulnerable: the power is already there, but there is no authority over it yet.
The roles of the Path require working with information: the Reader gathers what has been read, the Detective untangles lies and conducts investigations, the Erudite and the Prophet move from collected data to conclusions that no one has yet drawn.
The Method remained the knowledge of the few for a long time: the hierarchies of the churches were in no hurry to reveal it, and many Otherworldlies ascended blindly, paying for it with their sanity.
