Cryptologist — the stage at which the path of the Error acquires its own way of learning the truth, and this way fundamentally differs from divination.
Deciphering makes it possible to restore the truth behind any mystical phenomenon or predict the development of events from crumbs of evidence. It is made up of three things: sharpened observation and the ability to connect facts, greatly strengthened spiritual intuition, and mastery of mystical knowledge.
The Canon emphasizes the main difference: Decipherment is not divination and not prophecy. A Cryptologist needs information on which he builds his conclusion; he does not guess at random. But with sufficient material he deciphers:
dreams, delusions and other riddles, up to the location of the enemy;
spells by which amulets and mystical objects are set into action;
the secrets of the mystical objects themselves and of sealed artifacts.
There is also a danger in this, which the Canon warns about separately: some attempts at decipherment attract the attention of higher beings. The truth that the Cryptologist reaches for sometimes looks back in response.
In the version of the Amon path this enhancement comes later, only toward the Parasite, — which is why many Cryptologists of such a version possess incomplete and insufficiently keen abilities.
