The Method of Action is a way to digest a potion. The Otherworldly must behave as their level prescribes, until the power becomes part of them. Until the potion is digested, the bearer is vulnerable: the power is already there, but they have no control over it yet.
The roles of the road path: The Student learns and accompanies, the Astrologer reads the sky and finds direction from it, the Traveler does not stay in one place longer than necessary.
The Method remained a secret known to few for a long time: the church hierarchies were in no hurry to reveal it, and many Otherworldly rose blindly, paying for it with their sanity.
