The path of the Otherworldly is a method of gradual assimilation of a foreign essence. The carrier does not immediately become a full-fledged entity — at first, the essence is simply placed inside, like a seed in soil. Then begins a long process of merging: the essence gradually transforms the carrier, and the carrier — the essence. This continues until the two become one, until the boundary between "I" and "Other" disappears.
The method is associated with risk and stakes: the carrier repeatedly puts the outcome on the line and learns to live with what comes up.
The method remained the knowledge of the few for a long time: church hierarchs were in no hurry to reveal it, and many Otherworldly ascended blindly, paying for it with their sanity.
