The Hanged Man pathway originates from the 'Pillar of the Eternal Darkness' and is one of the twenty-two pathways 'Above the Sequences'. Its bearers listen to what the darkness whispers and pay for knowledge according to the darkest price lists.

The path begins with the potion of the Secrets Supplicant (Sequence 9) and leads to Sequence 0 - the Hanged Man, hanging between worlds, the guardian of secrets. It belongs to the 'Almighty God' group.

In the era of the novel, the pathway is dismantled by secret societies: the cults of the Rose School and sacrificial sects raise their Bishops and Shepherds away from the eyes of the great churches.

Action Method

The Method of Action is a way to digest a potion. The Otherworldly must behave as their step prescribes until the power becomes part of them. While the potion is not digested, the bearer is vulnerable: the power is already there, but there is no control over it yet.

The roles of the path are pastoral: the Listener hears what is not said to others, the Shepherd is responsible for those who followed him.

The Method long remained the knowledge of the few: church hierarchies were in no hurry to reveal it, and many Otherworldly rose blindly, paying for it with their sanity.

His bearers listen to others' troubles, take them upon themselves, and pay for others at their own expense. The ladder leads from the Listener through the Shepherd and the Dark Angel to the Hanged Man.
